What I loved about this book: This book has romance, action, mystery, and characters who control fire and ice with their minds. It’s an exciting story!!! In fact, when I decided to read this book, I picked it up for a few minutes before bed. Big mistake. I didn’t put it down for three hundred pages and was exhausted at work the next day. I loved watching Ruby grow as a character. I adored her relationship with Brother Thistle, Brother Gamut—and most of all—with the mysterious masked man who helps rescue her from prison. The chemistry between those two sizzled from their first meeting.

Major themes: Self-discovery as the key to freedom; the strengthening power of love; confronting the darkness within

Who should read this book: This book is a great read for anyone who loves fantasy and is comfortable with depictions of fighting/arena-style violence. Any reader who enjoys exciting adventures, high stakes, and turning the pages so fast they have to watch out for paper cuts should read this book!
